How to add readable subtitles to a video

Choose your video, pick a caption style and position, then generate original-language captions. If you need a translation, request it separately in the editor before reviewing and rendering a new video version. A sample caption overlay is only a style preview, not a transcript of your recording.

Choose a clear source

Open the subtitle tool and choose an MP4, MOV or WebM that you own or may edit. Play the local preview and listen to the speech. File selection and style preview are available before sign-in. Keep the original; unclear audio and overlapping speakers may produce errors.

Choose transcription or translation

The initial generation produces captions in the original language. Once they are ready, choose a target in the editor’s caption-language controls and explicitly request Translate if needed. Review that translated result before rendering again; selecting a language on the opening screen alone is not a completed translation. Availability follows your account conditions. Choose a style and position that leave faces, demonstrations and existing text visible.

Generate and check the words

Follow the sign-in and account conditions when you request generation. If the source exceeds the editor’s allowed duration, prepare a shorter eligible source. When real captions are ready, compare names, numbers and negations with the audio. Use available subtitle editing controls if your account permits them; do not treat plausible automatic text as an exact quote.

Check timing and readability

Play several passages, including fast speech and speaker changes. Check that each cue appears with the relevant words and remains readable on a small screen. Compare the chosen style against light and dark backgrounds. Keep subtitles clear of important labels and the viewing area used by your destination player’s controls.

Render and inspect the downloaded video

Saving subtitle text or seeing a preview overlay does not update an existing video file. Generate a new video version to burn the reviewed captions into the picture. A separate subtitle file serves a different purpose. Open the actual result and check the beginning, middle and end for readable text, correct timing and intact audio. Keep the source and task reference if the result cannot be opened; a completed status alone does not establish a usable export.
