Make Shorts from your own YouTube video

You can turn a useful moment from your own long YouTube video into a Short without recording it again. FlareClip accepts a supported public link or a video file and suggests clips with titles. Start with a video you have permission to edit, then check the selected moment and vertical framing before posting.

1. Bring in your video

Paste the public YouTube link into the YouTube to Shorts tool. Check the preview title and duration to make sure it is the right video. A metadata preview does not guarantee that the media can be imported. If import fails, upload your own original MP4, MOV or WebM file instead. Do not try to bypass private, members-only or other access restrictions.

2. Confirm what will be processed

Choose the content type and clip-length range when prompted. If the tool asks you to select a source range, make sure it covers the part you want. Follow the sign-in and allowance or cost information shown, then start generating. A long source can produce several candidates, but there is no fixed number of usable Shorts.

3. Pick a moment that stands alone

Watch each candidate and check that it delivers one clear point. Keep the explanation needed to understand the answer, especially any conditions that change its meaning. Review the suggested title against the words in the video. Keep the original source so you can compare the clip with its context.

4. Check the vertical frame and captions

The first cut can keep the source aspect ratio. Open the editor and choose 9:16 when you want a vertical version. Check faces, shared screens and text throughout the clip, not just the first frame. Captions are a separate choice: use the available caption controls if you want them, and proofread names and numbers. After changing the clip, generate the revised version and play that result before downloading it.

5. Download the version you checked

Check the beginning, ending, sound and any captions in the finished video. Download that version, then upload it to YouTube yourself and confirm the current Shorts upload requirements there. Exporting a clip does not by itself publish it to your channel. Make sure any music, images and other material are also cleared for your intended use.
